You’ve got the idea. Maybe it’s “get fit,” “learn something,” or “start a project.” But if you leave it like that, it won’t go anywhere. Most ideas fail not because they’re bad—but because they’re too vague.
That’s where SMART goals come in. They help you turn a blurry thought into a clear plan.
SMART stands for:
Specific (what exactly?),
Measurable (can you track it?),
Achievable (realistic?),
Relevant (does it matter to you?), and
Time-based (when will it happen?).
Let’s try it. Take “get in shape.” That’s vague.
Now make it: “Work out 3 times a week until December.” Boom—now it’s a goal. You know what to do, how often, and when it ends.
Real world examples:
“Save money” → Save $20 every Friday until December 1
“Read more” → Read 1 book a month for 3 months
“Write more” → Write 300 words, 5 days a week until August 31
“Sleep better” → Sleep before 11pm on weekdays for 30 days
“Learn coding” → Study 2 hours a week until you finish a course
You don’t need to get it perfect. Just make it clear.
